The Autoimmune Project is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to autoimmune disease.

We raise awareness + funds for research, education and resources, to help support those living with autoimmunity.

Autoimmune diseases are a modern day health epidemic.

Despite being the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, autoimmune diseases are slipping under the radar. While there are over 100+ known autoimmune conditions affecting 1+ million Australians, there is still little consensus as to why autoimmunity occurs or what can be done to cure it.

Due to the variety and differing severity of symptoms, autoimmune conditions are often difficult to diagnose, with patients seeing on average five doctors and waiting five years before receiving an autoimmune diagnosis.

The lack of knowledge and awareness surrounding autoimmunity in the general population further adds to the suffering for people affected by these diseases. We are now facing an epidemic that is under-recognised, and consequently under-diagnosed and under-reported, as well as misunderstood and mistreated.

Our Mission

Driven by our own personal experiences of the many challenges of living with autoimmunity, we are passionate about finding answers to the autoimmune puzzle.

The Autoimmune Project is on a mission to raise awareness and funds for education, research, and resources so that we may better understand, diagnose, manage and treat autoimmunity.

  • Awareness

We are dedicated to raising awareness regarding the prevalence and risk factors for autoimmune disease among the general public.

  • Research

We are committed to raising funds to help support ongoing research into the causes of, and treatments for, autoimmune diseases.

  • Support

We aim to provide support to those suffering from autoimmune diseases through dedicated resources and advocacy.

  • Education

We aim to advance understanding of autoimmune diseases in the medical community by supporting further education and training.

Recent Event: Chemo to Camino

The Autoimmune Project embarked on a remarkable journey with our 'Chemo to Camino' fundraising campaign, advocating for individuals battling autoimmune diseases.

This event, which ran from 31st May to 4th July 2023, raised $5,000 to support the ground-breaking HOPE Research Program at The Garvan Institute. Our commitment to making a difference, one step at a time, has left an enduring impact on both the fundraising landscape and the lives of those affected by autoimmune diseases.
